Deftones

Led by charismatic singer Cheno Moreno's, whose voice and lyrics are more attune to Northern European gloomy winter nights than shiny days at the hair metal salon, the multiracial, multicultural, multimusical Deftones are a band at odds with the traditional new metal scene.

After cutting their teeth on the Californian alternative scene of the early 90's, Deftones released their debut "Adrenaline" in 1995 on Maverick Records. The breakthrough came two years later with "Around the Fur". Including a collaboration with singer Max Cavalera (founder and frontman of Sepultura) on "Headup", "My Own Summer (Shove It)" featuring on the soundtrack to The Matrix and "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" becoming an instant hit in the alternative circle, the album went on to achieve Gold status.

With "White Pony" in 2000, the band explored new musical territories, gaining them critical acclaim while attracting new crowd of devotees. "White Pony" eventually achieved platinum status as well as a Grammy award for Best Metal Performance for the song "Elite". The eponymous "Deftones" in 2003 marked a return to their metal roots. After "B-Sides & Rarities" in 2005, the band ended their long collaboration with producer Terry Date in an effort to "crack the whip": "Saturday Night Wrist" in 2006 features new collaborations, including Serj Tankian from System of a Down on the track "Mein."

After selling over three million tickets and four million albums, the band carry on with what they know best and have started writing new material for their 6th studio album.
