Lenny Kravitz's debut album "Let Love Rule" in 1989 displayed for the first time his considerable talents as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and arranger. The son of Ukrainian-Jewish American NBC television news producer Sy Kravitz and Bahamian American actress Roxie Roker, Kravitz was born in 1964 in New York City.
In 1990, Kravitz co-wrote and produced the song "Justify My Love" for Madonna. A year later, produced an album for the French singer Vanessa Paradis, playing most of the instruments and co-writing most of the songs. He also released his second album, "Mama Said", the same year featuring his former classmate Slash, then of Guns N' Roses.
In 1993, "Are You Gonna Go My Way" earned Kravitz a BRIT Award for best international male artist in 1994. In 2000, he released a "Greatest Hits" compilation, which proved to be his most successful album and achieved triple platinum status. His latest album, 2004's “Baptism”, was propelled to gold status by the hit “Lady”.
