Avril Lavigne was born in a small town in Ontario, Canada, and grew up singing in church. She released her debut album, Let Go, in 2002, when she was 17 years old. The album spawned the hit singles Complicated, Sk8ter Boy and I'm With You, sold more than 16 million copies worldwide and was nominated for 8 Grammys.
Her 2004 album Under My Skin cemented her status, entering US, Canadian and UK charts at #1, unleashing singles Don't Tell Me and My Happy Ending. In 2006, Avril married Sum 41's Deryck Whibley and branched out into acting, appearing in Richard Linklaters Fast Food Nation and lending her voice to Dreamworks' animated film Over the Hedge, and modelling, announcing a deal with a deal with the Ford Models agency the same year.
Her latest single Girlfriend, from her 2007 album The Best Damn Thing, has seen her return to the top of the charts worldwide
