December 10: A Year in the Noise

The US vs John Lennon © Lionsgate

December 10, 1948.  On this historic day, the United Nations General Assembly adopts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).  On the same day in 1961, Peter Benenson's vision for Amnesty International comes to life.

Today, to mark human rights day, we are celebrating 58 years of the UDHR, 45 years of Amnesty International's movement to defend human rights, and one year of action for Make Some Noise.

You have made a difference.  Over 37,000 people have added their names to the Protect the People of Darfur petition.  We've reached one million faces to control the arms trade.  More than 5000 of you demanded justice for the women of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  And the  'Close Guantanamo' videos  are rolling in (keep 'em coming!) for our viral compilation of all your clips.

So thank you, to all of you who bought a track or took action, to our generous Make Some Noise artists, and to all of our friends who helped bring this project to life.

The US vs John Lennon was released today in the UK to mark the celebrations and remind us of Lennon's simple message: "peace is no violence, no frustration, no fear."  Check out the trailer and much more on our  human rights day page .
