Act now for women under fire in Darfur

"I support Amnesty because we have lived our whole lives in freedom - freedom of thought, freedom of action - and want to ensure others have those basic human rights"

5001 actions taken. 1024 friends told. 1 big meeting.

After being continually denied a meeting with President Fox, Amnesty Mexico and Jaguares were able to secure a meeting to deliver their thousands of petitions to Guadelupe Morfin, the Special Prosecutor appointed by President Fox to oversee federal intervention in the unsolved tragedies Ciudad Juarez.

We've been overwhelmed by your support in putting the international spotlight on Ciudad Juarez. Now we want to shed that light on the worst cases of violence against women in the Darfur region of Sudan .

Since 2003, thousands of girls and women have been raped or subjected to other forms of sexual violence in Darfur. While the world waits for justice, the perpetrators continue to rape and kill with impunity.

So watch the new video with actor Don Cheadle and join Snow Patrol in demanding justice for these crimes against humanity

Top acts bring the noise to Portland

With Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine (pictured), Incubus, Collective Soul and Suzanne Vega, this was not your typical human rights conference. AIUSA's 2006 Annual General Meeting "Human Rights at High Volume" culminated in a rousing  concert at Portland's Roseland Theatre hosted by Mira Sorvino to call attention to Darfur. Activists from around the country were equipped with Make Some Noise campaigning materials to spread the word to a new generation.
