The Cure

“I would not count anyone as my friend if they didn’t support Amnesty International"
- Robert Smith, The Cure

With band changes, lipstick, New Wave angst and epic rock’n’roll dramas, The Cure have seen it all. Their first album, Three Imaginary Boys (1979), signalled the start of a 25 year career which has sold over 27 million albums worldwide without ever making concessions to the mainstream.

Formed in 1976 with Robert Smith (guitar, vocals), Michael Dempsey (bass) and Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst (drums), The Cure have continually defied all expectation and confounded ‘industry experts’, releasing both dark, introspective tracks, and infectious pop romps.

Make Some Noise was a natural fit for The Cure. They’ve been involved with Amnesty International for years, successfully campaigning for the release of prisoners of conscience like Belarussian Professor Yury Bandazhevsky. In Robert Smith’s own words, “I support Amnesty because it’s not really an option, the way the world is going…Human rights are above everything else. Without human rights, life isn’t worth living.”
